My Grandfather was a true "Real Mechanic" and part time gunner on a B-24 with the 376th bomb group. He was shot down on his 46th mission in WWII (he did two tours of duty 25 missions each) He survived the war returned to Nashville. Tn. and raised his family. His grandson is a retired Colonel in USAF David Bruce Coomer, my brother.

Test Flight
by: Stuart Young

Sorry, not your father, but your grandfather. I just became a grandfather myself a couple years ago, so wanted to make sure to give your grandfather the standing "O."

Test Flight
by: Anonymous

My father, Radioman Alfred W. Young, went on a test flight with your father's pilot, Pelzman, a few days after my father's whole crew was shot down after bombing the Moosbierbaum Oil Refinery. My father had switched to a different ship and had made it back to San Pan ok. Pelzman and his crew had been sent to Capri for some R&R after clipping the stove pipe off of the squadron ops building and the test flight I guess was for him and my dad. My dad said it was an exciting ride and buzz job over Italian fishing boats and villagers. My dad missed out going to Capri, but he did get to Rome. He also decided to get back to his radio operator/gunner job after being convinced by Pelzman that flying was what he wanted to do. They were all great examples of the Greatest Generation.

376 ARCHIVES

The website 376bg.org is NOT our site nor is it our endowment fund.

At the 2017 reunion, the board approved the donation of our archives to the Briscoe Center for American History, located on the University of Texas - Austin campus.

Also, the board approved a $5,000 donation to add to Ed Clendenin's $20,000 donation in the memory of his father. Together, these funds begin an endowment for the preservation of the 376 archives.
