John Byron McRae

by Deborah McRae Carroll
(Portland, Oregon)

I do not have a story about John McRae because he was the father I never knew. I am looking for any and all information I can find about him. Somebody posted a picture of him with the crew that he was on. My son recently found it and I'm hoping that the man who posted it would know more about my father. My father was the mechanic and that's about all I know. I know he flew out of San pancrazio, Italy. I know he flew 50 missions and I have those Mission reports. I have tried to do as much research as possible but have run into dead ends and quit looking for a while. But you have given me New Hope. Am interested in the nose art on any of the planes that he was on. I guess they didn't just work with one crew. I'm sorry I'm in the hospital right now and don't have the name of the man who posted the picture or the name of the crew. But the name of the crew is on there. You can email me at Oreogirl4401@comcast.com or call me at 503-408-8967... I did get my car license plate as McRae has a tribute to him.

376 ARCHIVES

The website 376bg.org is NOT our site nor is it our endowment fund.

At the 2017 reunion, the board approved the donation of our archives to the Briscoe Center for American History, located on the University of Texas - Austin campus.

Also, the board approved a $5,000 donation to add to Ed Clendenin's $20,000 donation in the memory of his father. Together, these funds begin an endowment for the preservation of the 376 archives.
