Donald Macrae mission August 16, 1943

August 16, 1943 Up at 5:00AM. Had breakfast. Briefed at 6:00Am. Nearly didn't get off the ground. Had to catch up to the formation. Our target was the airfields at Foggia. There were a lot of fighters and some "ack-ack" but our element was lucky and we got none of it. Though one of the other groups got "ack-ack" and were hit hard by the fighters. Saw several fighters go down then saw at least two B-24's go down. One crew got out and one didn't. Saw them burst into flame when they hit. We were too long over Italy after hitting the target. Got back around 5:00 PM. Was very dusty. The General Ent was around at the briefing. Had supper. Took a dip in the ocean and then retired to the tent. Fell asleep before I could undress. Woke some time during the night and got to bed.

376 ARCHIVES

The website 376bg.org is NOT our site nor is it our endowment fund.

At the 2017 reunion, the board approved the donation of our archives to the Briscoe Center for American History, located on the University of Texas - Austin campus.

Also, the board approved a $5,000 donation to add to Ed Clendenin's $20,000 donation in the memory of his father. Together, these funds begin an endowment for the preservation of the 376 archives.
