July 3, 1944 We went on mission to Giurgiu, Romania. Ran into heavy and accurate flak enroute. Attacked by 35-40 enemy Me-109 fighters just before I.P. About 20 came in out of the sun at 12 o'clock high. No one saw them until they went by, one just off our left wing tip. Saw our slot man go down. Another pass by about 15 fighters was made and I fired about 100 rounds and maybe did some damage. Our squadron lost 3 Planes. Crews were Lt's Dugi, Hillman and Holgate. Lt. Humphreys came back with 3 wounded. One was he and the other two were the engineer and navigator. They made an excellent landing with a badly shot up plane. We had 3 planes destroyed and 4 were missing. App. 7 hours. (2)
The website 376bg.org is NOT our site nor is it our endowment fund.
At the 2017 reunion, the board approved the donation of our archives to the Briscoe Center for American History, located on the University of Texas - Austin campus.
Also, the board approved a $5,000 donation to add to Ed Clendenin's $20,000 donation in the memory of his father. Together, these funds begin an endowment for the preservation of the 376 archives.
